Memorial

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: LIFE SONGS

Memorial

We remember the soldiers

who gave their lives

for a cause that’s never certain

Some wars are righteous and necessary

Other wars are fought for greed

Even the good wars cannot be good

on both sides of the line

We remember all the soldiers

for their bravery and honor though

some were neither brave nor honorable

The loss is as severe for all

the soldiers and civilians caught

in the crossfire of war

We remember them and honor them

for they could well be us

We too would want to be remembered

We too would want to be honored

So we give them a day and remember them

We give them a day and pray their

lives were not given in vain

For all lives are precious

All lives should be remembered

All should be honored

We remember the dead for the living

We remember the living for the dead

Sheep

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: WORLD DEMOCRACY

Sheep

A candidate in Germany steps down

After expressing sympathy for the SS –

The elite Nazi enforcement unit

An American candidate for president

Takes down a campaign video

Expressing admiration for The Reich

As if he didn’t understand the reference

The Proud Boys are the SS without

The power of the state

The European right is marching goosestep

With Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping

Accepting laundered money and propaganda

The NRA is a front for Russian money

One World News is a front for Russia

The propaganda war has begun and our side –

The side of freedom and democracy – for

there can be no freedom without democracy –

Has fallen asleep

Those who follow their fearless leader

Like sheep who have lost their way

Will awaken tomorrow in a nightmare

They too will be left behind

They will be discarded with the rest of us

For they will have lost their purpose

They placed the strongman in power

And now they are of no more use

We are vermin and they are sheep

Extermination (Rafah)

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: ISRAEL AT WAR

Extermination (Rafah)

And so it begins

The final assault

Extermination of the enemy

The bombardment of the last stronghold

The laying of waste

They were cornered here like vermin

Pushed and herded here like goats

Here it ends

Here amidst the rubble of a once great city

Here in this landscape of destruction

Where mothers once gathered to gossip

While their children played

Where men followed footsteps to work

Where kids walked to school

Impoverished but not poor

Who but god and Netanyahu knew

That this would be the end …

But it is not the end

It is only another beginning

In the endless cycle of revenge

The Coup

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

The Coup

Maybe we’re all to blame

Maybe a change was overdue

Now we hang our heads in shame

We’ve legitimized the coup

We all witnessed an act of treason

Every one of us knows it’s true

Have we abandoned our sense of reason?

We have legitimized the coup

You might say nothing has changed

Days of old become the new

All the pieces are rearranged

We’ve legitimized the coup

Who’s to say when it will end?

Let’s give the other side its due

Will it break or will it bend?

We have legitimized the coup

This will live beyond tomorrow

They will wonder what we knew

We will hide our heads in sorrow

We legitimized the coup

Putin and Xi (The Dark Alliance)

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

Putin and Xi

Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping

The monster of Moscow

The bully of Beijing

They will lie and cheat and do anything

To further their cause of expansion

China claims Taiwan is theirs

Russia claims Ukraine

They rattle their sabers on a dare

Their intentions cold and plain

They want a new age of empire

The glory of their past

The west denies their brute desires

Their flags are at half mast

They push all states toward their ends

With arms and blatant bribes

But on economy their cause depends

That is the true divide

Xi and Putin will pay a price

Beyond prestige and lives

Losing their best trade allies

Their rule may not survive

The Fracture

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL WARMING

The Fracture

It runs deep and menacing

A fracture dividing the world

A threat to human domination

Civilization become unfurled

A fascist in Slovakia

Shot down for his beliefs

Some are hungry for regression

Some are thirsting for relief

In an age of global warming

We can’t afford a great divide

Yet that is what we’re facing

As all nations choose a side

One side calls for unity

In the struggle to survive

The other stands for power

An aggressive forceful drive

Which direction will we go?

What path will we choose?

If we choose the path of war

Both sides will surely lose

Houston Thunder

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: CLIMATE CHANGE

Houston Thunder

Ain’t it just like mother nature

To strike the vulnerable,

The unprepared, the ignorant,

The poor folks who don’t believe

That burning fuels for energy

Affects the global climate

Another superstorm strikes Houston

With the deadly force of thunder

Apocalyptic winds and twisters

With the power of natural vengeance

Killing seven, knocking out power

Reducing homes and buildings to rubble

Sending humans and animals to shelter

As if Houston was a war zone

As if some unknown enemy unleashed

Its weapons of mass destruction

But there is no war in Houston

There is no unknown enemy

These are only the forces of nature

On a rapidly warming planet

If we are not used to it we should be

If we are not yet prepared

It is past time we started

Mass Deportations

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

Mass Deportation

Round em up and head em out

The dark-skinned ones

The undocumented

The ones without bankable skills

The ones without employment

The ones who lack insurance

The one who have no bank accounts

Round em up and head em out

By the hundreds and the thousands

On the streets and in the cities

In the alleys and the homeless camps

In the pubs and in the fields

Filling jobs that no one wants

At less than living wages

Under less than decent conditions

Round em up and head em out

When they’re no longer useful

When they’ve spent their last buck

When the boss can’t make the payroll

When they cost more than they’re worth

When politicians need a scapegoat

When there’s no one else to blame

It’s an old game

Use them and abuse them

Like cattle on the range

Until the crops have been gathered

And the harvest is all done

Round em up and head em out

Until next year …

Goosesteps in Red Square

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

Goosesteps in Red Square

Tanks rolled in the Kremlin today

Soldiers goosestepped in Red Square

On a freezing cold and snowy day

Mother Russia remembers Victory Day

The Russians fought against the Nazis

Millions starved and died

But they held strong against the tide

Their hearts rightfully filled with pride

But the war they fight against Ukraine

An invasion of their choosing

We can’t pretend it is the same

And this time they are losing

America stood behind them then

Now we stand against them

They have the weapons and the men

But the civilized world condemns them

You cannot take a land by force

Because you held it long ago

We must not allow aggressive wars

To enable a nation to grow

Trump on Trial

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

Trump on Trial

Mister Trump is on trial

For the very least of his crimes

Hush money for a porn star

Out of sight, out of mind

He defrauded the nation

He flat out lied to us all

But hush money for sex

Could be his downfall

What about insurrection?

I hear some of you say

What about Russia?

What about pay-to-play?

All of that may be true

But we push it all away

It is all about sex

How much did he pay?

Some day we may know

The full scope of his crimes

But that day must wait

It’s a very long line

Kurdistan (Forgotten Nation)

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

Kurdistan

They had to fight for their freedom

Every woman and every man

They had a dream of independence

In a land called Kurdistan

Denied statehood for many centuries

They continue to press their cause

By helping to defeat the Islamic State

They are bending international laws

They have earned their independence

That no one should deny

Their fierceness and their courage

Have enabled them to survive

It is time for the civilized world

To recognize the Kurdish state

Over centuries of resistance

It is their right and righteous fate

The Pledge of Rage

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

The Pledge of Rage

I pledge allegiance to the dawn

Of the united states of rage

Democracy will not last long

If we turn a tragic page

Once or twice in a lifetime

We face a critical choice

There is a mountain we must climb

To hear the quiet voice

A voice of reason carries strong

To those with open minds

A simple question: right or wrong

The truth is there to find

A voice of anger speaks to hate

Hate both of self and others

Stay the urge to tease your fate

Think of your dear mother

This world is not so horrible

We do not need destruction

It can be quite adorable

Let it flow without obstruction

Shallow Victory

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GAZA & UKRAINE

Shallow Victory

He believes that he will win

If only he stays the course

History will not record the

Horrors of these immoral wars

In the past there may be truth

The victor writes the story

But the old no longer holds

The oppressor gains no glory

We’ll remember what you did

As long as there are sorrow’s tears

The fiction lasts a moment

The truth endures the years

You are the villain of the tale

The enemy of global peace

Of all the leaders in this world

You are the ones admired least

If that to you is victory

Enjoy it while it lasts

An empty cup upon the shelf

Devoid of all class

In truth there is a place for you

Where all villains have a seat

The ones who proclaim victory

Who will go down in defeat

(for Putin and Netanyahu)

Banning a Song (Hong Kong)

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: WORLD DEMOCRACY

Banning a Song

Your stranglehold on power

Is something less than strong

When you determine you must ban

A proud and simple song

The people fought for freedom

In Hong Kong’s angry streets

When China brought the hammer down

The world cried at their defeat

No one has shown more courage

Than the people of Hong Kong

Who rose up for their dignity

Their oppressor was dead wrong

Now China shows its weakness

By banning the people’s song

An insult to their legacy

All Glory to Hong Kong!
