Any War Will Do

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AMERICAN POLITICS

Any War

Because the president says it

Does not mean that it is true

The president wants a war

Almost any war will do

There is no trouble in Liberia

No Christian genocide in Nigeria

We have no business in Siberia

There is no reason for hysteria

He’s waging war on Venezuela

Cuba, Haiti and Brazil

He’s sending troops to Arcadia

He wants an enemy he can kill

If we are waging war on ISIS

Set the target within Sahel

There you will find a crisis

Turning villages into hell

But you don’t want a righteous war

When any third world war will do

You don’t care the reasons for

You don’t need a cause that’s true

You’ll keep on throwing bombs

To distract us from the truth

It’s an old familiar song

To be answered in the booth

Russian Mercenaries

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: RUSSIA

Russian Mercenaries

They don’t have enough soldiers

To fight their war against Ukraine

But they’re sending mercenaries to Mali

To join a war of the insane

They don’t believe in their cause

Because the cause is not their own

They’re fundamentally flawed

Like a heart made of stone

They pay the North Korean poor

To boost their numbers in Ukraine

But every mercenary war

Is a war fought in vain

They ignore all human rights

They practice torture and abuse

When they have lost the will to fight

Their iron grip will shake loose

The Russians are a scourge

On the entire human race

Their forces should be purged

From each and every civilized place

Congo Mining Disaster

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

Congo Mining Disaster

Desperation breeds carelessness

Carelessness yields death

The Congo is a wilderness

Where the people hold their breath

A hundred people died today

In a crudely dug gold mine

The Congolese have little say

They’re stuck with what they find

A nation torn in civil war

Devoid of law and order

Arms are given to the poor

To defend a crooked border

The people live in poverty

They have no honest choice

They lack a true democracy

They have no honest voice

Violence is their only means

Of getting what they need

Poverty is what they’ve seen

A land of corporate greed

So miners go beneath the ground

To dig for precious gold

The mines are neither strong nor sound

In time they will not hold

A hundred people die today

A hundred more tomorrow

Until there is another way

The Congo lives in sorrow

The Democratic Facade

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: WORLD DEMOCRACY

The Democratic Façade

In Tanzania they elected a president

Samia Suluhu Hassan

If a true republic is what they meant

Their chances are nearly gone

She tallied 98 percent of the vote

She believes that is a mandate

In fact that is a tally of note

That declared a miserable fate

For democracy requires an open field

In a free and fair election

A republic allows no such appeal

The fraud is beyond correction

Tanzania is now a phony façade

Another entry in the despots ring

When you’ve no choice but to applaud

The applause means less than nothing

We wonder why they even bother

To present themselves as free and fair

Like pretending a deity is your father

Why would you even dare?

Arms for Genocide

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GENOCIDE

Arms for Genocide

Supplying arms for genocide

In Gaza or Darfur

Is a crime the world cannot abide

Of that we should be sure

The United Arab Emirates

Believes they are immune

To the laws applied to all of us

We’ll find out very soon

They’re killing all the native sons

All those of darker skin

They’ll kill them all before they’re done

They’ll kill them all again

The Emirates supplied the weapons

To do their dirty deeds

A bold supply of swords and guns

To kill the Sudanese

The world must now decide

If the Emirates have the right

To fund and foment genocide

Beneath a glaring light
