Assassination

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

Assassination

The leader of a sovereign nation

Must follow certain rules

There can be no assassinations

Or assassination schools

For what comes around goes around

As every schoolboy knows

If you put someone on the ground

Soon enough you’ll come to blows

They shot the Ayatollah down

Without thinking of what follows

What goes around comes around

That saying is not hollow

So we cannot be surprised that

Assassination is now in play

You pull the tail of a sleeping cat

The cat will have a say

So our leader is endangered

By his own reckless act

Watch out for every stranger

May be an angry cat

This is why we have laws

That govern what we do

If you pull the shortest straw

Everyone is bound to lose

Remember the Fallen

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: VIOLENCE

Remember the Fallen

We lament the killing of Charlie Kirk *

As we mourn Melissa Hortman **

Both were killed for political work

By a crazed individual assassin

One is no greater than the other

No lesser by any means

One was a sister, the other a brother

And both were human beings

Both were martyred to their cause

Remember them for who they were

Despite whatever human flaws

This fate they did not deserve

There is far too much hatred and rage

In this world of growing extremes

We are entering a desperate violent age

We should grasp just what that means

High powered weapons in dangerous hands

Are a problem we all must address

Take a vow to do whatever you can

To make these dangers less

And lower the volume of discontent

Accept that we can disagree

Interpret kindly what others meant

Try not to plant the seed

*   assassinated in Utah

** assassinated in Minnesota

Nefarious Conspiracy

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: CONSPIRACY

Nefarious Conspiracy

I am not one who discounts the possibility

Of nefarious conspiracy among the elite

You could fill the pages of world history

With conspiracy in victory and defeat

The rise of the Nazis was a conspiracy

The murder of Abraham Lincoln

Suspicion rises to strong possibility

With both Kennedys and nine-eleven

Those who mock conspiracy theories

Have long hidden their heads in the sand

It’s never the story that wrong and dreary

It is who came up with the plan

There are conspiracies in darkened rooms

That are being formed as I speak

There are countless skeletons in the tombs

If the naked truth is what you seek

Those in power have all conspired

To keep it in their greedy hands

With evil purpose the halls are wired

As we serve at their command
