The Light

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: CORONAVIRUS SERIES

The Light

Pray for forgiveness

Pray for second sight

End this madness

Follow the light

For we have lived too long

Suffered too many lies

Cried too many tears

Sacrificed too many lives

To hang our weary heads now

And give up the good fight

Find your courage and

Follow the light

For I have witnessed darkness

And I have seen its face

It always pretends to care

As it fills our empty space

But we reject their message

As we stand for the right

Stern your resolve

Follow the light

For we have dwelled so long

In the caverns of darkness

Even the thought of light

Delivers palpitations of the heart

Our eyes close in fright

As if thought alone

Could damage our sight

Discard all distraction and

Follow the light

For we have breathed this toxic air

So long we think it’s healthy

When others have nothing

Having something seems wealthy

And we have sought our comfort

In shared grief and mourning

So long it sings us goodnight

Stand up stand strong

Reach out for the light

Come now the light will guide you

Into our mother’s loving arms

And it will make you whole again

And it will make you strong

Let it raise you to its lofty height

Find your strength inside

Come home to the light

Purgatory

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: VISIONS

Purgatory

There is a place on earth

Between heaven and hell

Where the land is on fire

Where the senses rebel

Where the air smells of smoke

Where the leader laughs

And calls it a joke

There is a place on earth

Where the frozen tundra melts away

Where caution runs and folly stays

Where homes burn to the ground

And the land runs dry

Where grown men break down

And strong women cry

This is a land of prophecy

A dying breed

Where one world ends

And another takes seed

The Sacred Crow

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: VISIONS

The Sacred Crow

I gazed into the eyes of the crow

And saw what came to be

Days of darkness nights of fear

Catastrophe in threes

We tasted fruit from the poison tree

Where many fell and did not rise

The crow will always find its way

Piercing a sea of lies

I saw a scarred and barren land

From the eyes of the crow in flight

Trees ripped from their mother’s womb

A horrid tortured sight

I saw the land turn dry and crack

Cities swallowed by the sea

Smoke filled skies and burnt horizons

No place of rest to comfort me

The crow escapes to untouched heights

And leaves me far behind

To seek what solace welcomes me

What fate for me unwinds

If we measure pure intelligence

By the talent to survive

The human will long vanish

The sacred crow will thrive

Be more like the crow

That lives within its means

That leaves the land intact

And honors what it dreams

Little Girl

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR:  VISIONS

Little Girl

Little girl little girl

What dreams will you dream

Will you dance in the heavens

Will you play on the team

Will you find true love

To help you along

Will you always be willing

To sing your own song

Have you set your sights

On a future of gold

Will you climb a tall mountain

Before you get old

Will you find that life

Is not quite what it seemed

Little girl little girl

What dreams will you dream

In moments of glee

Little boy little boy

Old Woman

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: VISIONS

Old Woman

Old woman old woman

Will you look back on the years

Will you reside in yesterday

Will you dry your mournful tears

Will you search lost memories

For better times and better ways

Leave your worries behind

Let your problems fade away

Will you find the lord above

Will you move on or will you stay

Where you’re most loved

Where you’re most safe

Will you stop and take stock

Of all the things you did not say

All the stories left untold

All the debts you did not pay

When you got old and it got late

The morning light turned to gray

And you accepted sorrow’s fate

Old woman old woman

Will you look back with tears

Old Man

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: VISIONS

Old Man

Old man old man

What can you do

You have lived your life

You must now say adieu

Will you retreat inside

Will you push the world away

Will you plead for one last ride

One last plan to go astray

You had so many chances

To change what went wrong

But you were lost in your world

You were tossed in your song

Now you’ve made your bed and garden

It’s too late to change the end

You look back on your deeds

And the wreck you must defend

They will turn the world over

They will make the earth anew

Old man old man

What can you do

Young Woman

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: VISIONS

Young Woman

Young woman young woman

What path will you take

Will you bury the past

This world to forsake

Will you forgive all those

Who shook the earth to its core

Will you seek a new start

Will you open a door

Will you burn the bridge behind you

Will you bid us farewell

When you have your own children

What stories will you tell

About those who came before you

Who forgot the ones to come

Who were blind to the future

To the past deaf and dumb

What love will you harbor

What hearts will you break

Young woman young woman

What path will you take

Young Man

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR:  VISIONS

Young Man

Young man young man

Oh where will you go

What future do you see

What seeds will you sow

This world has turned inside out

You would have to be a fool

If you were not filled with doubt

Everything you see and touch

Everything you feel and know

Scattered like the dust

The way the wind blows

We have taken your world

Flipped it on its head

Due to our neglect

Millions are dead

Does it matter that we’re sorry

Does it matter we regret

We are like the lost horizon

Won’t be here to pay the debt

Young man young man

Oh where will you go

Bubble World

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: CORONAVIRUS SERIES

Bubble World

I have seen the future

A strange and foreign view

A vision of fear and separation

A world not brave but new

It began when a virus

Spiraled out of control

Then protest brought violence

That compromised our souls

So the wealthy took refuge

In bubbles of their own device

Self-sufficient isolation

Purged of disease and blight

They created a bubble

To keep the riffraff away

When the virus was vanquished

They kept it that way

Why take any chances

If you feel a bit wary

And you’ve got enough money

It’s not necessary

Live your life in a bubble

No worries or fears

Protected and guarded

From anger and jeers
