No Peace

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

No Peace

There is no peace in Syria

where forever war still reigns

in Yemen or Nigeria

where war’s an old refrain

In Gaza there’s no peace

in Israel or Ukraine

in Russia there’s a beast

whose war is now ingrained

There is no peace in Pakistan

the old war rages on

no peace in Afghanistan

the Taliban is not gone

There’s no peace in any nation

where the iron fist is strong

there is no celebration

where everything is wrong

There is no peace in India

in China or Taiwan

in Asia or in Africa

in Thailand or Saigon

There is no peace in Paris

in Berlin or Brazil

as long as terror scares us

the threat of war is real

Monsoon

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL WARMING

Monsoon

Floods have taken hundreds of lives

In the Kashmir region of Pakistan

In a place that tests your will to survive

A harsh and unforgiving land

The floods trigger the landslides

A torrent of flowing mud

A river of death far and wide

A consequence of the flood

The monsoons visit every year

The people take it in stride

Bury the dead and shed their tears

Rebuild and stand with pride

Each year the rain grows stronger

Each year they bury more

The monsoon season is longer

The flashflood waters roar

This too is global climate change

And yet we hear no warning

It seems the earth is now estranged

In the years of the great warming

Kashmir

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

Kashmir

When the British drew the border

They divided the state of Kashmir

They knew it would cause disorder

And a perpetual state of fear

Between India and Pakistan

Two fierce and nuclear powers

A battle over no man’s land

Would break out every hour

It’s a war that none can win

Without a chance of annihilation

Every time the fight begins

It’s a threat to every nation

Where then is the calm negotiator?

Who will bring them to the table?

The vengeful and the rabid haters

There is no one who is able

We must live in constant fear

That vengeance will win out

As the days of reckoning near

The planet’s future is in doubt
