The Killing

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: PROTEST

The Killing

They’re killing us on the streets

Just for being who we are

They’re killing us in our cars

A sense of heartbreak and defeat

We remember Rodney King

We remember George Floyd

Through our tears we feel the sting

When the soldiers are deployed

On the streets of our cities

In the center of our nation

Have you no heart and no pity?

Have you no sense of indignation?

We remember Kent and Jackson State

That’s when we knew they were willing

To shoot us down at the gates

To answer protests with killing

That’s when we had to contemplate

The cost in blood and the chilling

That’s when we knew the rabid hate

In their thugs they were instilling

Now we’re back to where we were

Law and order is their cry

Before the dead have been interred

They are spreading deadly lies

(In memory of Renee Good & Alex Pretti)

Land of the Free

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

Land of the Free

What land is this I wonder

The purple mountains majesty

The land of grain and thunder

The land of grace and sympathy

The land that pulls you under

This is the land of liberty

The land where all are free

The land that wants no misery

The land that lets you be

The land that places family

Among the sacred trees

A darkness spread across the land

The shadow of a beast

Some rose up to make a stand

Some cried out for peace

Many hid and many ran

So many more deceased

What happened in this land of light

This land of liberty?

The place of law and human rights

The land that sings of thee

A shadow brought an endless night

A curse on all you see

We finally gave up the fight

We are no longer free

Police State

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AUTHORITARIANISM

Police State

Crime in the district is down

Don’t let the facts get in the way

The Guard is coming to town

It’s law and order day

The district is not the first

They’ll be coming back to LA

From there it only gets worse

They’re coming to town to stay

There’ll be no more demonstrations

No more protests of any kind

Welcome to the police nation

Want a job? Get in line

They’ll have your number and your name

They’ll know exactly what you’re up to

The dirty immigrants are to blame

Put em all in an immigrant zoo

Your freedoms and your rights?

Just how much do they mean?

The dimming of the light

Among the worst we’ve ever seen

Immigration Man

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: IMMIGRATION

Immigration Man

Have you seen that immigration man?

Have you seen that immigration man?

Have you seen that immigration man?

I’ve been hearing his name all over this land

Looks just like a military man

Looks just like a military man

Looks just like a military man

Baton and rifle in his hands

Round em up and carry them away

Round em up and carry them away

Round em up and carry them away

Got no money? You ain’t got no say

Family man, wife and kids at home

Family man, wife and kids at home

Family man, wife and kids at home

Run and hide, forever you will roam

Farmer says they’ve got a job to do

Farmer says they’ve got a job to do

Farmer says they’ve got a job to do

The man says, we’ll take em when they’re through

Have you seen that immigration man?

Have you seen that immigration man?

Have you seen that immigration man?

I’ve been hearing his name all over this land

Immigration Gestapo

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: IMMIGRATION

Immigration Gestapo

The émigré gestapo is coming

To spread terror in your town

Factory workers start running

Before you’re beaten to the ground

They don’t care about your rights

Your rights expired yesterday

They’re more than ready for a fight

Your people do not have a say

You are something less than human

So our president has decreed

His gestapo friends are fuming

They would love to see you bleed

Towns and cities across the land

Get prepared to be invaded

Unless you want to make a stand

The light of liberty has faded

It seems our nation’s gone astray

Our doors and gates are locked

The new gestapo is here to stay

The road to freedom has been blocked

The Guard in LA

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: CIVIL LIBERTIES

The Guard in LA

To brutalize the people

Is not the duty of the Guard

You’re leaving us no option

But to push back hard

The agents of the Homeland

Are completely out of place

Waging war against the people

An incredible disgrace

The people do not want you here

Throw your weapons to the ground

You’re marketing in hate and fear

To this course you are not bound

For this is not a war zone

No one summoned you for aid

The violence you’ve caused has grown

Tear down your damned blockades

Ask yourselves what you are serving

The cause of peace or war

The people here are not deserving

They’re just unfortunate and poor
