The Silence of America

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR:  UKRAINE

The Silence of America

As Russia launched a devastating attack

Into the beating heart of Ukraine

Zelensky pleaded with the world to strike back

To make their collective outrage plain

London, Berlin and the European Union

Condemned the blatant escalation

The free world stood in communion

All except one lonely nation

The silence of America was loud

Like a shot in the quiet of night

Vladimir Putin must have been proud

He has silenced America’s might

The world must revise its alliance

NATO and all free nations

In light of America’s silence

They can hardly expect salvation

They know that this can’t last forever

This aversion to freedom’s cause

The nation from its roots is severed

Not forever but just for a pause

America will be herself again

We can only wait and pray

Greater than we’ve ever been

A nation that will not stray

Around the World

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR:  THE RESISTANCE

Around the World

We’re pulling troops from Germany

We’ve putting them in Poland

Berlin becomes our frenemy

Greenland becomes our No Land

Putin follows Trump to Beijing

They’re losing their respective wars

Britain travels on our wing

We still don’t know what for

The King addressed our Commons House

He set our leaders straight

The opposition party was aroused

You can’t lead this world with hate

Our president goes back on attack

Now he wants two billion bucks

Republicans at last push back

This time he’s out of luck

The ever-shifting goals of war

Are looking worse and worse

We’d like it like it was before

We’ve heard the people curse

The Pope is speaking out for peace

Our president is incensed

He wouldn’t give the Pope a feast

His patience has been spent

The world is standing up as one

For peace and human rights

This reign of horrors must be done

It’s time to stand and fight

Starmer V. Farage

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: BRITAIN

Starmer V. Farage

Farage won this round

But the battle is not done

The European side is down

But the war has not been won

Starmer will hold steady

In a parliament of many

The old guard is not ready

To change the euro for the penny

Two opposing parties is insufficient

To express the people’s will

The entire system is deficient

Like a mountain for a hill

The young will push ahead

The old will fade away

A reunion will be bred

They’ll regret the day they strayed

The party leader may be new

Yet the cause remains the same

Britain yearns for Europe too

In something more than just a name

A New Britain

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: BRITAIN

A New Britain

The duopoly is breaking down

Great Britain will survive

Other parties have staked their ground

A multiparty system will thrive

Reform is the biggest winner

The Labour party is the loser

They’ve defeated all the sinners

And made Starmer out a boozer

Their democracy will endure

Though it may take a different form

Parliamentary to be sure

Without the two-party scorn

It’s hard times for those in power

With inflation and the rest

If you are in the ivory tower

You did not pass the test

Will the change be everlasting?

No one really knows for sure

The system may have need blasting

As a farmer needs fresh manure

The King's Speech

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

The King’s Speech

I am no fan of royalty

British or any other kind

Yet do not question my loyalty

When I say he spoke my mind

He took issue with our president

Without mentioning his name

His message was a testament

To the president’s great shame

He warned of too much power

In the hands of just one man

He spoke to the day and hour

As much as any royal can

He defended our democracy

From Magna Carta to the Bill of Rights

He condemned every theocracy

Beware the Christian right

He defended the great alliance

That was born after the War

He spoke with the bold defiance

Of a man from a distant shore

(Charles III speaks to Congress

28 April 2026.)

Britannia Rising

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

Britannia Rising

Our most loyal of all friends

Has risen in objection

That friendship is at an end

Until the next election

We went to war alone

Netanyahu not withstanding

The crude harshness of our tone

The lack of understanding

All of Europe stands apart

They’ve refused to go along

For diplomacy is an art

That our president gets wrong

We demand that they close ranks

Though they never had a say

We’d like them to say thanks

For what we did yesterday

But this is a brutal war

Netanyahu got it wrong

It is rotten to the core

And Britain will not go along

BBC V. Donald Trump

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: TRUMP

BBC V. Donald Trump

The Donald took his shakedown

Across the Atlantic Sea

But his vengeance cruise ran aground

When he faced the BBC

We all watched as it went down

A clear attempt at a violent coup

Their report* was on solid ground

Though the Donald’s rage but grew

He challenged an angry mob

To assault the people’s house

He proclaimed revenge as his job

Whipped them up til they were roused

He told them he would lead them

Like a commander leads an attack

In the end he’d only bleed them

Before he finally walked it back

The man was guilty as bloody hell

The BBC should stand its ground

The day the republic almost fell

Their report was fully sound

Britain Takes the Lead

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: UKRAINE

Britain Takes the Lead

As the US takes a neutral lane

Great Britain takes the lead

In a new alliance with Ukraine

An agreement signed with speed

The world’s preparing for the day

When America is in retreat

Ukraine must find another way

Or face a certain defeat

A one-hundred-year alliance

A promise for the ages

A higher level of reliance

As the war in Ukraine rages

While the future is uncertain

Across the hemispheres

Russia rebuilds its iron curtain

Triggering our darkest fears

Will Ukraine still be a nation

When the US is withdrawn?

Or will a new allied creation

Awaken a new dawn?

The Balance

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

The Balance

The despots have their champion

With his money and his fame

He yearns to carve an empire

And brand it with his name

He’s on the march in Britain

He has headquarters in Berlin

As for the rest of the world

Where do we begin?

There’s trouble in South Korea

The Middle East is in flames

Poland, France and Hungary

To our eternal shame

There’s panic all around the globe

As we count the final hours

There is no place beyond the reach

Of a madman’s quest for power

From Syria to Ecuador

From Columbia to Spain

The fear of falling victim

Like the victims in Ukraine

When we lose our sense of balance

Our bond of unity may fall

When the oligarchs take over

It will threaten one and all

Stand Up!

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: GLOBAL POLITICS

Stand Up

Standing up for what is right is

A sacred obligation

Standing for our nation’s pride

Against discrimination

We see forces against the light

Standing up for hate

We fear the voices of the right

Are standing up too late

They’re standing all across the world

They’re standing in the streets

When good people stand together

We will hand them a defeat

There are more of us than them

Though they are brash and loud

Our strength is in our virtue

Together we stand proud

We’ll stand up for minorities

We’ll stand up for the poor

We’ll stand against oppressors

And their dirty little wars

(The British stand against fascism.)
