The Insurrection Redux

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

The Insurrection Redux

The insurrection has not ended

It has simply gone to hiding

If the people are offended

We soon will be deciding

The insurrection will be televised

There is no doubt on that

Our history will not be revised

To reflect the latest stat

The last one was rehearsal

For the one that’s yet to come

No blockage or dispersal

Come on out and get you some

The insurrection will be televised

In all its gloom and glory

We will all believe the lies

We are sticking to our story

If you don’t want an insurrection

You had better make it clear

For there will be some defections

As the day of dread draws near

The insurrection will be televised

From its inception to its end

We will watch it grow and die

And this message we will send:

Go home and take your violence

Go home and take your guns

We will not stand in silence

We will not turn and run

Big Tent Party

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AMERICAN POLITICS

Big Tent Party

The Democrats are on the run

The “Big Tent” party has failed

It allowed a right-wing charlatan

To run the nation off the rails

If you really want a Big Tent

Don’t attack the progressive wing

If you wonder where the voters went

They felt the corporate sting

Hey Big Brother, have you heard?

They’re leaving you behind

They aren’t afraid of “scary” words

The people make up their own minds

They like what the candidates represent

They like what they have to say

A party that falls short of Big Tent

Can only get in the way

Expand your way of thinking

There’s a mountain we must climb

The old party has been sinking

For a very, very long time

You’ve been losing all the races

We have lost our peace of mind

It is time to greet new faces

Of a new and fresher kind

We need a new unification

Of all parties in opposition

To save this faltering nation

With a new, enlightened mission

No!

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: THE RESISTANCE

No!

We don’t want you wicked ICE

We don’t want your data centers

Let me give you some advice

Put an end to these adventures

You don’t know what you’re doing

You don’t know what you’ve done

You’re flailing and you’re suing

And the backlash has begun

We don’t want your dirty prisons

We don’t want your careless cuts

There’s a trail of daft decisions

The decree is open shut

We don’t want your lame-brained wars

We don’t want your crypto schemes

We don’t want drilling off our shores

We don’t share your racist dream

We don’t want to rig the vote

We don’t want soldiers on the streets

We don’t want to rock the boat

But we won’t march to your beat

It is time for you to go

We’ve grown tired of your act

You have lost your golden glow

Cue the curtain, fade to black

Around the World

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR:  THE RESISTANCE

Around the World

We’re pulling troops from Germany

We’ve putting them in Poland

Berlin becomes our frenemy

Greenland becomes our No Land

Putin follows Trump to Beijing

They’re losing their respective wars

Britain travels on our wing

We still don’t know what for

The King addressed our Commons House

He set our leaders straight

The opposition party was aroused

You can’t lead this world with hate

Our president goes back on attack

Now he wants two billion bucks

Republicans at last push back

This time he’s out of luck

The ever-shifting goals of war

Are looking worse and worse

We’d like it like it was before

We’ve heard the people curse

The Pope is speaking out for peace

Our president is incensed

He wouldn’t give the Pope a feast

His patience has been spent

The world is standing up as one

For peace and human rights

This reign of horrors must be done

It’s time to stand and fight

The Opposition Rises

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: RESISTANCE

Opposition Rises

The opposition rises

Like the Phoenix from the ashes

The whole world is in crisis

As the global system crashes

We are waiting for a change

Not a surface decoration

For the people are estranged

From this war seeking nation

Our money seems to shrink

Every time we drive our cars

How long before we sink?

Just how far is too far?

They take away our friends

They’ll shoot us if we resist

On their mercy we depend

We are governed by the fist

Now they’ve taken it abroad

This grand brutality of force

Netanyahu playing God

Now we’re fighting Israel’s wars

Turn around and make it stop

This war has got to end

We are not the global cop

Let the wounds begin to mend

The Resistance Grows

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: RESISTANCE

The Resistance Grows

We don’t know how it began

We don’t know how it will end

But we know and understand

What lies around the bend

We’ve all seen this act before

Like a nightmare in repeat

It’s a scene of blood and gore

They’re all pounding out the beat

We’ll be heading out tomorrow

To see what we can do

We’ll take what we could borrow

To see our mission through

The men in masks will follow

Wherever we may roam

Their hearts and souls are hollow

They’ll hunt us to our homes

They’ll take away our families

They’ll threaten all our friends

They’ll call us all the enemies

From which they must defend

But the people won’t believe them

They’ve seen enough to know

Too often they’ve deceived them

Their sense of outrage grows

A Thousand Little Fires

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: RESISTANCE

A Thousand Little Fires

You cannot fight a war

With water guns and whistles

It does no good to roar

When the enemy’s firing missiles

He starts a thousand little fires

He knows we can’t address them all

Before long we’ve grown tired

We just can’t answer every call

He lights a fire in Ukraine

He lights another at the border

He pretends to be restrained

He cries out for law and order

He wants Greenland under ice

He wants Canada to pay

He’d like us to pay the price

To send our working force away

There are a thousand little fires

Every single one is burning bright

Every circumstance is dire

It’s all too much for us to fight

So choose your battle and take aim

Keep your target in your sights

Exposing lies and naming names

Holding justice to the light

Cowards

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: AMERICAN POLITICS

Cowards

The Speaker of the House

A once revered position

Cowers like a timid mouse

Defending treason and sedition

The party of corporate greed

Taking profits for themselves

While the constitution bleeds

They’ve got seats reserved in hell

The wicked wealthy oligarchs

Who paid for influence and power

May your kingdoms fall apart

May there come a reckoning hour

The corrupted Court Supreme

They’ve tossed away their dignity

While their hands were never clean

They are now the court of infamy

The party of the opposition

Where is your urgency of now?

If we were in your position

We would never bend or bow

Now’s the time to rise as one

Join the people in the streets

Now is your moment in the sun

Get off your bum and on your feet

Seize the moment and the day

I’m not advocating violence

We all have our parts to play

Do not squander it in silence

Hope Rises

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: LIFE SONGS

Hope Rises

Hope rises like the Phoenix

And crashes like a bomb

Take a breath, make a wish

Decide what side you’re on

When you’re on the side of hope

You’re a moment from despair

From worrying how to cope

To doubting why you care

When hope rises from the dust

Every day becomes bright

When we shake off all that rust

We set out to make it right

We are the hopeful warriors

Just like we’ve always been

We’re workers and we’re lawyers

We’re ready to fight again

For hope rises with the sun

And hope falls in the deep of night

The long war cannot be won

Yet we will always seek the light

Defiance

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: RESISTANCE

Defiance

When they come for you with shackles

Do not go quietly

Defy!

When they come for your neighbor

Do not stand by

Defy!

When they come for your reporters

Stand up for them

Defy!

When they come for your representative

Demand to know why

When they fire all the rangers

Refuse to comply

When they take away your rights

Raise the rebel cry

When they take away your vote

Get angry

Defy!

Fight Back

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: RESISTANCE

Fight Back

Never give up the fight

When the fight is in the making

Keep your enemy in sight

Take what’s for the taking

They will try to break your spirit

They’ll push you til you bend

They think you’ll come to fear it

They hope you won’t defend

Show them what you stand for

You’re the ones who will not quit

Keep knocking on that grand door

Until the victory light is lit

You may not always win

But you will always stand up proud

When you give the wheel a spin

Say it clear and say it loud:

We’ll fight against all odds

We’ll fight for all it’s worth

We’ll fight against the gods

And the beasts who rule the earth

Stand your Ground

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: LIFE SONGS

Stand your Ground

There are times to compromise

There are times to stand your ground

When all you hear are lies

To honor you are bound

Your principles should never bend

Or bow to greater force

While broken fences we should mend

Remember: stay the course

A compromise will never do

When it wounds your very soul

To yourself you must be true

You’ll find no other role

So suffer through the consequence

If that is what’s required

For that is what the wise one meant

Do not put out the fire

For we are what we stand for

Be it bad or be it good

We’ll open up or bar the door

According to what we should

Conscientious Objection

 RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR: RESISTANCE

Conscientious Objection

There was a man named Olaf *

I remember him quite well

I remember his defiance

On the day his brothers fell

Olaf held his principles

Until the day he died

While all around him faltered

His conscience did abide

The more we look around

The closer we inspect

All citizens have a right

To conscientiously object

We are watching as our freedom

Is threatened to the core

The truth has little value

Our rights have little more

A woman’s right to choose

The right to organize

The right to march the streets

To call out all the lies

The more we see their actions

The less we can respect

All citizens have a duty

To conscientiously object

* I Sing of Olaf by e.e. cummings

Mama Never Lies

RANDOM JACK POETRY HOUR

Mama Never Lies

Mama taught us to believe

In the police the teachers and preachers

Mama told us so it must be right

Mama told us with a sigh

And mamas never lie

Mama taught us to show respect

For people in authority

And no one has more authority

Than the president

Even if you disagree

Even if you see the world

Through different eyes

Presidents do not lie

Mama told us to go to church

And pray to the baby Jesus

Listen to the preacher man

Be humble and be good

Go to heaven when you die

Preachers never lie

Mama taught us to say sir

When a cop stops to talk

Nod our heads and show our hands

Though she did not say why

We got the message and comply

Because cops don’t lie

I don’t go to church these days

I don’t much honor the president

I’m afraid of the police

I don’t trust the preacher

And I’m not sure about the teacher

Mama really didn’t know it

But I’ve learned as time goes by

Everybody lies

Except mama

Who did the best she could

To help her children survive
